This one is different. There's no voiceover, no background music, no jokes about my waistline. Just two minutes of pure helmet-view reality, captured in full 360° on the Insta360 X4 as we climbed the highest mountain in the UAE at sunrise. Tilt your phone, drag the screen, or strap on a VR headset — you're not watching this ride, you're on it.
Four Friends, One Mountain
The cast: me on Manchalee, Hadi, Dr. Qasim — better known around here as Dr. Daddy — and Omar Shafdar. We rolled out of Dubai well before dawn, because that's how it works here in the warm months: you either ride at stupid o'clock or you don't ride at all. (There's a whole article about why UAE bikers ride at 4:30am, if you've ever wondered.)
Midway, we pulled over and paused for our Fajr prayers — a quiet few minutes by the roadside while the sky shifted from black to deep blue. Then back on the bikes, climbing the famous Jebel Jais switchbacks as the first light touched the tarmac. By the time we crested the summit, the sun was just breaking through the horizon. It felt like a small symbol of the whole journey — and the faith that brought us up there.
360° video is an invitation. You look around as if you're on the bike — every curve, every cliff edge, sunrise from whichever angle you choose.
Why No Music, No Narration
Deliberate choice. The audio is exactly what my helmet heard: engine roar, wind, and that strange mountain echo Jebel Jais throws back at you in the hairpins. Adding a soundtrack would have been like putting ketchup on biryani. The video was shot on the Insta360 X4 in 360 mode and exported equirectangular with metadata, so it works on mobile (move the phone), desktop (click and drag) and VR headsets (full immersion). If camera trickery on bikes is your thing, the fake drone shot setup video shows what else this little camera can do.
The Real Summit Reward
And because no MotoMoku ride is complete without food: at the top, Dr. Daddy treated everyone to anda paratha rolls and kadak tea while the sky turned gold. Egg, paratha, strong chai, four tired friends and the entire Hajar range glowing below us. There are five-star breakfasts in Dubai that cost a hundred times more and deliver a tenth of that feeling.
This was part of the MotoMoku Rides 2025 series — Dubai to the mountains. Short video, long memory.
