In every desi family there's a wedding video. Ours just happens to feature a motorcycle.
The day Manchalee — my BMW R1250 GS Adventure — was delivered from the showroom, I narrated it the only way that made sense: as the arrival of a new bride. A monk-looking delivery driver brought her home, secured properly by her family so she couldn't run away mid-journey, and the groom (me) stood in the driveway feeling exactly like a man who'd just got married again. Heavy and strong, just like me. Solid and sturdy. Look at this bride.
The Case for a Second Wife (of the Motorcycle Variety)
Allow me to present the comparison that got this video its views. The new wife: doesn't demand dinner. Doesn't ask for gifts. Has no opinion on the toilet seat situation. Never asks why you're lying on the couch instead of doing housework. Files zero complaints. The first wife, who has tolerated me for thirty years, would like it noted that she also has to tolerate this entire bit — and that she's seen the invoice.
I got an extra key as part of the dowry — and huge bills. After paying them, there's a very specific face a man makes. It's in the video.
Rivalry at Home
Manchalee officially became the sautan — the rival wife. The plan was simple: sneak out quietly at night for secret rides, live the dream, keep both households happy. (You can see how that worked out on New Year's Eve, when both wives ended up on the same ride. Pray for me.)
Underneath the comedy there's a real moment here that every midlife rider will recognise: the mix of joy, guilt and disbelief when the thing you've wanted for thirty years is suddenly standing in your driveway with your name on the registration. The accessories, the upgrades, the pampering of the new bride — all of that came later and got its own episodes (start with the gear reviews).
It's a two-minute video. It's in Urdu with English subtitles. And it remains the most accurate documentary about middle-aged motorcycle ownership ever filmed in a Dubai driveway.
